if god is everyone, and god is within everyone, why would god make some people so mentally ill that they commit murder, or rape people, or commit such monstrosities? its really hard to believe in god when such evil is going on. is god within these people?
buddy
You went deep with this one.
I do think God is within such people. It sounds horrible and harsh, maybe, and it is. But… I don’t see the divine as a completely benevolent force. I think it could be, but the goal of spirituality is kind of… to make the universe (god) work in your favour.
I think it’s fair to question not just the existence, but the morality of god. Why is the world cruel, why is the world this, why is it that. I would say that there’s a balance needed in the world, that God, singular, isn’t actually the human like thing we imagine in our heads, that, rather, it’s just neutral laws of the universe, which doesn’t care for good or bad.
I would say that religion/god/spirituality, as a practice (vs as pure love and worship), provides a sense of relief and control that is comforting in a world which is evil. But, why do bad things happen? I don’t know. What I do know is that, to address these things as far as we can, for ourselves and others, we need to strengthen ourselves mentally. And for me, religion is a great vehicle for that.
